IB-elev

The IB Diploma Programme is an international pre-university programme taught in more than
120 countries worldwide. The quality of the programme is guaranteed by an independent

IB organization with its Head Office in Switzerland and its curriculum center in Wales. The language of instruction is English, giving graduates a significant
advantage at Swedish universities and abroad.
Many of the teachers at the IB Diploma Programme at Katedralskolan are native English speakers.

The first year is the pre-Diploma Programme year where preparatory courses are taken in all subjects offered at the Diploma Programme.
During the next two years at the DiplomaProgramme six subjects are studied, chosen from
the six groups: three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. This creates a balance between the natural sciences, the humanities, and the arts.

There are three additional requirements, which are unique to the IB:
Theory of Knowledge – a transdisciplinary course which encourages critical and creative reflection on knowledge issues arising in the other subjects,
Extended Essay – a 4 000 word in-depth research paper on a topic inspired by one of the
six subjects and which prepares students for university-level assignments.
CAS (creativity-action-service) – an opportunity for personal development through activities such as sports, creative skills, and service to others.

What kind of career possibilities are there after completing the IB?
The IB is a broad programme and the diploma opens many doors. The majority of our graduates have chosen a university education in Sweden within a wide range of disciplines such as medicine, law, languages, pharmacy, political science, economics, and engineering at prestigious universities such as Chalmers, Handelshögskolan, and Karolinska Institutet.
Some of our graduates have chosen to study abroad in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Holland, and Hungary. We are proud to say that right now we have students at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the London School of Economics, the London School of Medicine, the University of St Andrews, the University of Edinburgh, MIT, the University of Warsaw, and at medical schools in Prague and Gdansk.
